Rick Hearne — Crazy For Wood
If you are reading this blog, you probably love wood. It’s the core material, the foundation of whatever woodworkers or wood artisans create. It’s that appreciation of fine wood that took me on one of my recent journeys, this time to Southeastern Pennsylvania, to Hearne Hardwoods, where I was able to get an inside look at how wood is sourced, processed and sold to end-users (the craftspeople, collectors, and artisans like me and you).
In filming the video featured on this page, I had the chance to spend time with globe trotting wood collector and hardwood dealer Rick Hearne. Rick travels the world locating rare, highly-figured, or prized species. But as much as Rick enjoys the hunt, he always relishes the magic moment when he cuts a log open to discover the beauty hidden within. In this video, experience the thrill of slicing open these gems of the forest.
I hope you enjoy this video and the rest of the videos in my Hearne Hardwood series. (4.5 Minute Woodworking Video)
VIEWER COMMENT
“Keith, As one who has had the good fortune of watching a highly figured old English oak cut open at Rick Hearne’s facility – with Mira Nakashima present – it is truly a wonderful and unique experience. You captured it perfectly with your video. Thanks.” — Brian Caldwell
